Hotel Pod Wawelem

It may not be literally 'under Wawel' in which case you'd be shacked up in the 'Dragon's Lair'. However, you're certainly a dragon's leap from the castle, which means you can actually enjoy a view of the citadel. The hotel offers 47 rooms, all with showers, internet connection and cable TV. The style of the rooms - and the hotel throughout - is neat and pared down, there's nothing old fashioned about the place. If you want to push the boat out, there is also an apartment with commanding views over the river. However, in summer all guests can enjoy the fantastic rooftop bar, a Cracow highlight.

Hotel Pod Wawelem

"Have just got back from a fantastic 4 days at this hotel. Out of our party of 17, I didn't hear any complaints. Our room had a small glass balcony and overlooked the river to the front and the castle to the left. There were tea & coffee making facilities and a hair dryer in the bathroom. The restaurant stayed open for us until we had finished our meal, which I think was about 11pm. The roof terrace, with fantastic views, was open every time we went up there, some lunch times and early evening. They did run out of eggs one morning at breakfast, but overall I think it offered very good value for money in a great location and I would definately recommend it."

"Luckily we didn't have any of the problems of the previous couple. We found the setting a winner. Rooms spic and spin if not wonderfully imaginative. Enjoyed being next to the castle. "

"Stayed here in April this year, while the hotel is very nice, my first impressions are that they need to improve on customer service issues. The first room we were given overlooked a dirty brick wall.... not what we were expecting at all, and the windows did not open, not good for my health. There was no offer of a smoking/non smoking room, so I had to go outside the building as the roof terrace was not always open.... the bar was not open while we were there and restaurant closes at 10pm, so no chance of a drink near to home, in fact the best place I found was the Irish bar, normally a place I do not use while abroad.... I also feel that there should be at least a hairdryer in each rooms, we had to request one, and they were not too keen to lend one, and, no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. We ended up in a twin rather than a double room, which had a nice view over the river, I was not prepared to stay in a room with no openings to the windows, had a poor experience like this in Amsterdam where I ended up ill through no fresh air available,The hotel however is lovely if they can iron out a few of these issues, then I would recommend it, but most of my friends would not welcomed the fact that they could not have a smoke in their room if they wished,"
