If you feel more relaxed sticking with something you already know, the long-established Novotel is one of the obvious choices to go for. It's not far from the centre, and you get all the facilities that you would expect from the French brand. Not many hotels in Krakow have a swimming pool and this alone is something of a bonus. If you book in advance be sure to try for a room with a view, as the upper floors have a panorama of Wawel Castle. All in all though this is a reliable choice, and having just opened recently it's in ship-shape condition.

Novotel Krakow Centrum

hotel was excellent, very clean, and rooms were of great size, the pool and children areas were great, the only problem i found was booking trips in the hotel, you couldnt pay with a card, you had to go down the road and withdraw from ATM yet the hotel took card for paying mini bar bill so couldnt understand why you couldnt pay with the card for all the trips, but other than that the staff were friendly, helpful and polite and the food was lovely.

Stayed here in mid -July 2007, to scout out a place to live in Krakow. Traveled with husband and son, shared one room with double bed and couch/daybed. Great restaurant. Decent room; it and the hotel in general were very clean. Bath was good sized, had a bathtub, good sized mirror, hardwood floors.

This hotel has a/c, decent sized bathtubs (!), a swimming pool (!), locker/changing and exercise room, small spa/hot tub, gift shop, small jewelry store, bar and VERY small indoor play space for kids.

Desk staff was knowledgable and friendly, English was spoken by almost everyone we dealt with. The bar and restaurant staff were excellent, also. Food is terrific for the price and you have an easy walk into the center, to shops, public transport, etc.

If the airline loses your luggage, as happened to us, or you want your own soft drinks, milk, fruit or snacks in the room later, go to the Jubilat (like Woolworths but also a full grocery) on the corner, get what you need and bring it back.

Several Kantor kiosks--currency exchanges--are nearby, also.
