Dom Polonii

Whenever we have friends looking for places to stay in Cracow, this is often first on our list of recommendations. Offering the best value for accomodation in the heart of the Old Town, their comfortable serviced rooms are ideal for those who don't need the full-blown services of other hotels. Can be a bit noisy on the front, but the view makes up for it. Steep staircase to the third floor might just be the only drawback. Pleasant cafe-bar on the ground floor.

Dom Polonii

"Have just returned from a brilliant stay in Krakow. This hotel is actually on the main square where the Christmas Market is held and also turn right and you are on the royal route to the Castle. The rooms, although rustic, are very large, clean and warm with en suite and kitchen. The Manager, Mr Dobrzanski, is so helpful and pleasant. He speaks perfect English and arranged all tours for us plus airport pick up/drop off. Despite the three flights of stairs we will be returning to Krakow and to this hotel again with friends."

"My grown son and I just returned from a 3-day visit to Krakow, searching for,and finding, our roots. Our stay was made perfect thanks in large part to the "Dom Polonii"!It's location is the most central possible, the room we had was very large and comfortable (more like a suite!) and the breakfast excellent. The price was extremely reasonable. Best of all, the manager of this Krakow Cultural establishment is a wonderfully friendly and kind gentleman, who helped us with anything and everything we needed, and always with a smile. We highly recommend the "Dom Polonii", despite the three-flight climb to the room, and will definitely return there again next time we are in Krakow! "

"The wife and I stayed in the huge suite apartment in May 2006. The location of this apartment is absolutely superb, you are literally right on the square. You will not get any better - not even the best hotels! The suite apartment is huge, but feels very old and antiquish. Everything is clean however, and their is a huge bathroom, clean towels, and a huge king size bed. Their is a small fridge in the apt, but no washing machine. Note, you have to walk up about 3 flights of an internal stair case to get to the apt. At the bottom of the building is a great little restaurant that does breakfast, lunch, dinner etc. Being on the main square however, there is places all over the place to choose from - however many don't open until around 10am. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from this apt to the main train and bus station. From the bus station, you can get the bus out to Auswitch. We arrived into Cracow by train, and simply walked to the apt with luggage. At the train station, there are plenty of ppl offering taxi service though. In terms of booking the hotel, this was probably the most tricky part. When you call the main phone no 012 428 04 60, you will likely get a Polish speaker. Fortuntely the wife's mother can speak Polish, so she did all the reservations for us - no credit card/deposit or anything was required - which kind of scared us. We were not sure if this was going to work out, and travelling from Australia we didn't want to take any chances, so we also emailed and asked for confirmation. The main older gentleman that runs the whole place (which primarily functions as some type of theatre/piano/conference centre) speaks excellent English. So if you get on to the Polish speaking person, you may want to ask in Polish for the English speaking gentleman/president. The very kind and helpful gentleman also mentioned that he has some other old-town apartments, but not as superbly located as those at Dom Polonii."

"Stayed here for three nights in December 2005. The suite was quite amazing, never been anywhere quite so 'quirky' or so spacious - felt it was such a shame only me and my husband had so much space to ourselves. A very helpful manager came to talk to us as we had a 'Vienna' styled breakfast in the cafe bar on our first day giving us very good instructions to find the bus stop to visit the Salt Mines. Would love to re-visit again."

"Stayed at Dom Polonii in November 2005 and thought it was superb value, the apartment is amazing, the large room is also great with good view over the square. Central location cannot be beaten. Proprietor could not have been more helpful. "

"Had a bit of a problem getting in touch with this place. Their website doesn't seem to work. But we persevered, and found this to be good value. The stairs are a bit of a bind, but the great location made up for it. We'd stay here again, but they have got to do something about the reservations - at the moment it's a joke."
