Este Gallery of Curiosities

One usually expects to find a fair amount of junk in a curiosity shop, and if you're lucky, perhaps the odd gem. However, this being Poland, it's the other way round. Este is one of the most charming shops in Cracow, full to the brim with of all kinds of wondrous things, from elegant antique Chinese furniture to prints by talented Polish artists. It's located in a rather splendid townhouse in the heart of the Old Town, which all adds to the appeal, and you could really spend all day wandering round here. A wonderful place.

"Great place, half art gallerie - half curiosities... the owner are nice and we bought there : a langusta, butterflies, insect made of glass, corals... we wish we had bought the head of a rhino and a few polish furniture... In our opinion, the best shop in krakow, as far as you don't look for silly souvenirs..."

"Great place! I'm not sure that I agree with your "antique Chinese furniture" description - most of it looked like modern "antiqued" repro to me, but it is attractive nevertheless. Local Polish odds and ends were FAR more interesting, nad generally not too expensive. A good place to kill an hour or two if the weather's not too good or you can't make it down to the Antiques Market in Kazimierz on Sundays."
