Joka Car Hire have set up shop in the princely Pugetow Palace. They've got a royal range of cars at their disposal, with everything from Mercedes C class numbers to trusty Ford Focuses. Prices kick off at 58 Euros a day for a Fiat Punto or a Renault Clio, and there are rising discounts the longer you hire for. Joka is a successful company that's been in the business for ten years now, and they also have branches in Gdansk, Warsaw, Katowice, Wroclaw and Lodz.

Matt, you should have known you need an international driver license. its not their fault you failed to do your due dilligence in researching a foreign country> Similiar to austria, you need one too as well as a vignette on your windshield for example. You should have done your research.

I rented a car for myself for 2 days. They claimed the smallest/cheapest car was unavailable, therefore they gave me a larger car at a discounted rate. Seemed like I was off to a great start. Less than 15 minutes after leaving Joka, I was involved in a minor accident with a local. The police arrived and fined me 500 zloty for causing the accident, as well as driving illegally in Poland, as they do not recognize US driver's licenses. I was taken back, because I had no idea I was unable to drive in Poland. I certainly had no trouble renting the car through Joka, they even photocopied my license! A representative of Joka showed up at the accident to help fill out police reports. He claimed his company did not know that US citizens cannot drive in Poland. He told me to be at Joka's office Monday to fill out their accident reports. I arrived Monday and filled out the necessary paperwork. After, I pleaded with them to refund me my 2 day rental, worth 641 zloty. I had the car less than 15 minutes after leaving Joka, before the accident. They wouldn't budge. They insisted as an American citizen, I should know which countries I may legally drive in. They maintained it was not their responsibility to advise their clients of the Polish laws. After pleading my case for 15 minutes, I gave up. I walked outside and rode my bicycle back to my room, 5km in pouring rain. Thank you Joka!
