April 2008

Jacek Sroka: Prints, Painting, Drawing
Dates shown: 7th March until 4th May
Branch: Main Building, Al. 3 Maja 1
Sroka's art bears something in common with the fanciful maps made by Renaissance cartographers. His prints are peopled by strange, fantastical monsters that might equally belong to grotesque children's tales. There's plenty of humour too - he enjoys throwing especially unpleasant cats amongst the pigeons. Sroka (born 1957) has won admirers across the globe, and his works have found there way into many distinguished collections. At this show you can check out over 300 paintings, aquatints and sketches.

Records of Transformation
Dates shown: 28th March until 4th May
Branch: Wyspianski Museum, ul. Szczepanska 11
The National's second Spring show unveils an astonishingly rich collection of Polish art that spans two centuries. Krzysztof Musial - a Polish businessmen who's held high-flying jobs in Britain and the States - has amassed one of the world's finest private collections of Polish art. Over two hundred pieces can be savoured at this exhibition, including canvases by some of the most lauded names in the Polish pantheon. Well worth catching.

Zbigniew Pronaszko (1885-1958)
Dates shown: 17th January until 30th March
Branch: Main Branch, al. 3 Maja 1
From the 17th January the National Museum offers an exhibition on Zbigniew Pronaszko, painter, sculptor and scene director, and will showcase the Museum's collection of his works, including 97 oil paintings, 20 sculptures and over 500 works on paper.
