A Festival of Gay Films at Kino Pod Baranami
9th May until 15th May
Following on the heels of Cracow's Festival for Tolerance, Kino Pod Baranami will be staging a short festival of gay cinema. The event, which comes under the patronage of the Goethe Institute, offers the chance to see some classic, albeit rarely screened films in one of Cracow's most charismatic venues.
Besides the classics, the festival will also reveal some more recent cuts, exploring the dilemmas of homosexuality in today's world. Themes in the spotlight will include discrimination, AIDS, and the fight for rights of various kinds. That said, it's not all browbeating stuff. Portrayals of more mundane scenarios will also be covered. The wider family orbit will be explored, as well as relationships of couples themselves.

Directors featured in the festival include James Ivory (Maurice), Pier Paulo Pasolini (Teorema) and Nisha Ganatra (Chutney Popcorn). All in all an intriguing mix, and an engaging prospect for all open-minded cinema-goers. Worth a try.
