Krakow Aquarium

An unassuming 19th century townhouse on Sebastiana Street hides one of Krakow's most fantastical treasures. Step through the doors and find yourself in a world of aquatic wonders. A state of the art aquarium - the largest in Poland - provides a home for dozens of Neptune's most mind-boggling creatures. A vast shark tank is sure to thrill, whilst upstairs a rumbustious gaggle of reptiles holds the fort. With full wheelchair access and special facilities for children, the Aquarium is set to be major new landmark (or should that be watermark?) in the city.

Went the other day. About a third of the exhibits were closed (including the sharks), and I'm not sure if it's because they haven't opened yet or are just under renovation. The exhibits are a bizarre mix of aquarium, natural history museum, and indoor zoo. Everything seemed nice and well-kept, and the staff were friendly (and spoke English). There were also English signs in all but the natural history parts (a room on evolution and a room of minerals). There were discounted tickets due to the reduced number of exhibits, so though it wasn't the most impressive museum I've been to, it was a good-faith effort and worth my 16 zloty and 45 minutes. Pretty tropical fish, a nice collection of cichlids, and a lot of reptiles. The cotton-top tamarinds are definite crowd-pleasers! I plan to go back if and when the sharks come out.
