Winning Wonders Now On Show

The winners of this year's Szopki (Christmas Nativity Scene) Competition were announced yesterday in the splendid Fontana Hall of the Cracow History Museum.

This was the 63rd competition of its kind, whilst the actual tradition of building the scenes dates back much earlier into Cracovian history.

Following a short carol concert at the museum, guests were treated to a vast cake in the form of a szopek. The choosing of the winning nativity scene may have been a tricky one, but the edible version was unanimously appreciated by both young and old szopki enthusiasts.

The competing cribs - which by tradition resemble the kind of coloured castle that one finds in a Slavonic fairy tale - will be on display at the Museum until mid-February.
