Poland’s outgoing president Aleksander Kwasniewski is in Kiev for talks summing up the development of Polish-Ukrainian relations, as well as the situation in Ukraine a year after the Orange Revolution, which led to the victory of pro-western and democratic forces.
Many Ukrainian analysts believe that it was largely thanks to Kwasniewski’s mediation that bloodshed was avoided in the autumn 2004 conflict between the authorities and the then opposition.
Kwasniewski is scheduled to meet president Viktor Yuschenko, the minister of foreign affairs and the parliamentary speaker.
