Star Attraction Reopens!

After six years of umming, ahhing and god know's what else, Cracow's Gallery of 20th Century Art is finally reopening this weekend. Cracow has been derided in the national press for hosting the least dynamic branch of the national museum in the entire country, a rather painful criticism considering that this is supposed to be the cultural capital.

Nevertheless, Cracow has the chance to put a spring back in its step this weekend. Polish art blossomed like never before in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and the reopening of the museum's gallery will draw back the curtain on some of Cracow's finest treasures.

7 million zloty has been spent on the refurbishment of the museum's second floor, and to celebrate the relaunch, the gallery will be free for all this Sunday (10am - 7pm).

To be fair, Cracow's National Museum has accomplished some considerable feats over the last six years. And it's no secret that finding funds in post-communist Poland is no walk in the park. Besides several superb one-off exhibitions, the NM's newly -opened Wyspianski Museum has been a success, as has the garden of the Mehoffer Museum (voted best architectural project of the year by popular daily Gazeta Wyborcza).

The main branch of the National Museum now has the chance to become a happening place again, and we wish it every success. Drop by on Sunday for a host of special events for all age-groups.
