A Polish sailor has been rescued off France’s Atlantic coast after phoning a friend at home to get help as his sailing boat was lashed by a violent storm. According to Agence France Press, the 67-year-old man used a satellite telephone to make an SOS call to a friend in Poland who, after desperately seeking someone who spoke French, finally managed to get the alert through to French authorities. It took them nearly five hours to locate the man. He was in a state of hypothermia and shock. His 12-metre yacht was left without a mast.
