Tricky Moment For Coalition Partners

“We have a crisis and we will try to solve it” stated Jan Rokita before his meeting with PM-designate Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz.

Poland's conservative Law and Justice party and its would-be partner Civic Platform continue to bicker over power sharing in their future government. Law and Justice, buoyed by the presidential victory of their leader Lech Kaczynski, expects their partners to accept their junior position.

The pro-business Civic Platform said it wanted concessions in economic policy and protested the conservatives' plans to control justice, home affairs and secret services at the same time. Jan Rokita from Civic Platform met the PM designate but their joint press conference was called off. At the same time Donald Tusk invited Lech Kaczynski for talks – demanding the post of Interior Minister for Jan Rokita as a sign of good will from the Law and Justice party.
