Border Crossing Blocked By 'Ants'

The Polish-Ukrainian border crossing at Medyka has been blocked by people engaged in small scale cross-border trade. The so-called “ants” are unhappy with new Polish customs regulations, which in their opinion discriminate against people resident in the border regions. They can now carry across the border one packet of cigarettes and half a litre of alcohol, while people who live elsewhere are allowed to bring a whole carton of cigarettes and 1 litre of alcohol. This has prompted many “ants” from the border areas to change their address fictitiously to evade the law.
