Retro Party Ready For Lift Off!

Stalin quipped that communizing Poland was like trying to saddle a cow. Well, this Friday the cow (or noble, wild stallion according to old school Poles) will strike back with an extravaganza of potty, pre-1989 inspired events. These include a performance by 80's pop legends VOX, a good old fashioned herring knees up, a play at Nowa Huta's Laznia Nowa theatre and many more retro delights. Not quite what Comrade Lenin envisaged when he lived in Cracow before the First World War, although we know for sure that Vladimir was a devotee of Polish vodkas (and soups but we don't have time to discuss that now...).

The escapades kick off at cult club Lubu Dubu tomorrow at 5.30pm. They've commandeered a 70's bus and an entire tram, but you won't be needing those right away as the party will be getting underway inside.

Lubu-Dubu can be found in the townhouse at 11 Wielopole Street. As Cracovians will already know, this whole building has been taken over by a trio of bars, the others being Caryca and Kitsch, two of the funkiest spots in town. All three hangouts will be taking part in the programme, before the revelers decamp to former Socialist 'ideal city' Nowa Huta for Part Two of the nights adventures. The Lubu Dubu crew will drive all retro reprobates back to ye Old Cracow at six the next morning. If you can't hack the whole hog, a taxi won't completely ruin you, and trams continue to run until about 11pm. Just don't go for a solo, midnight tour of Nowa Huta, as things can get a but spicy on a Friday night. Stick to the automobiles - it should be a great night!
