Cracow's modest airport is set for a radical transformation this autumn with over four million dollars earmarked for the complex's expansion.
As much as three million dollars have been awarded by the EU, whilst Poland's Ministry of Infrastructure has chipped in a sum of 1.1 million dollars.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September, whilst April has been put forward as the month of completion. All the same, punctuality is not renowned in this neck of the woods, and shrewd observers will take a wry of view of such claims.
Cracow's enlarged terminal will be almost twice its former size, with floor space stretching from 10,000 sq m to 18, 000 sq m.
Whilst there is something rather homely about the modest size of Cracow's airport, keeping it that way is not really a feasible option and most travellers will be delighted by the news.
The developments are certainly timely - since Poland's accession to the EU there has been a sudden race for no-frills carriers to fly to Poland's second city. Wizz Air, EasyJet and SkyEurope are amongst the recent crop of additions, whilst Italy's Volareweb and Germany's Germanwings are already established fixtures.
