Farmers’ Self Defence has invited a delegation of the Chinese Leaque of Communist Youth for a series of meetings and discussions aimed at establishing a long-term cooperation.
Self-Defence officials say they would like to study the economic transformations in China and set up business contacts. Led by Andrzej Lepper, Self-Defence is a populist party. Its popularity has dropped tangibly over the past few months and according to the latest polls it can count on a ten percent support in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
During their stay in the Baltic city of Szczecin, the Chinese delegation was received by the head of the Szczecin province who represents the government administration. A member of the liberal Civic Platform has addressed a protest letter to the foreign minister in which he claims that the meeting with a government representative was incompatible with Poland’s official foreign policy line. In his view, an official meeting with a communist organization constituted an infringement on the authority of the Polish state.
