Dachshund Day Cometh

For one day every year, Cracow is ruled by our four-legged friends, or more specifically, dachshunds. Cracow has about as many sausage-shaped dogs as it does sausage shops. In other words, thousands.

One Sunday each Autumn, denizens of dachshunds descend on St. Florian's Gate, the ancient entrance to the city. From there - dressed in a dizzying array of dapper costumes from pirates to cowboys - the jovial woofers follow the Royal Way to the Market Square, humans in tow. It's a marvellously potty spectacle.

As usual, the event is being organized by Radio Krakow, and this year's parade has now been fixed for Sunday 4th September. The walk usually commences mid-morning, so head for the Barbican if you want to join the mad march.
