Last Chance To Discover A Master!
Cracow's finest gallery had a dicey moment a fortnight ago when a chef in the neighbouring mansion accidentally sparked a raging fire. Such was the intensity of the blaze that the roof of 'The Prince's House' erupted into a torrent of flames.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire, nor did it spread to the neighbouring building, which houses the International Cultural Centre. Thanks to the perseverance of the firemen, the Director of the Art Centre was able to breath a distinctly grateful sigh of relief.
It must certainly be a trying moment ringing up your peers abroad and saying 'I'm terribly sorry, but I'm afraid your entire shipment of Monet's has been burnt by an unsuspecting chef."
That was pretty much the scenario that was facing Director Jacek Purchla last month, but fortune smiled on the Centre, if not on the hapless owner of the Sphinx restaurant.
As it goes, visitors now have a last chance to catch the Centre's prestigious Summer Show, 'Frans Masereel: Discovering a Master', which closes this weekend. As a parting perk, the Centre will be hosting a special family offer which allows two adults and their children to get in for the price of just one ticket. It's a marvellous exhibition space, and a fine opportunity to explore the works of the master of 20th century Belgian illustration, Frans Masereel.
