Amber Heist At Border
An attempted customs deception of half a million euros has been prevented by Polish officers on the Polish-Russian checkpoint at Gronowo.
A Russian citizen transporting amber from the enclave of Kalingrad to Poland was declared to be carrying raw amber worth 10 thousand dollars. The search through the suspect's belongings by Polish customs officers revealed jewellery items whose value is estimated at 570 thousand dollars.
When ones declares to be carrying raw amber through the border one does not need to pay VAT. The confiscated amber will be auctioned.
