Musicians Take over Cracow
Clean out your ears and get ready to dance, because the inaugural Cracow Day of Music festival will take place this Saturday, the 18th of June. Several venues, including the market square and Elvis Presley avenue, will be playing host to all forms of music imaginable, from the traditional to the downright bizarre.
Instigated by Seweryn Bumsztajn, the chief editor of the Kraków edition of ‘Gazeta Wyborcza’, the festival is open to everyone regardless of musical ability or chosen instrument: if you want to take part then please contact Agnieszka Kozak, the festival coordinator, at 0-12 629 52 07 or by email to agnieszka.kozak@krakow.agora.pl.
If you would rather take a more passive approach, then expected highlights include a mass performance, on several hundred guitars, of Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water”, and a special anthem, composed for the occasion by Grzegorz Turnau, which will be played simultaneously as a ring tone on hundreds of mobile phones. If you prefer more traditional events then you can catch the Gipsy Kings in front of Galeria Kazimierz, or the MPK brass band in Debniki park. Check the posters round town or www.gazeta.pl for complete event listings. See you there!
