The sale of the majority stake in Polmos Bialystok is yet to be settled, according to local reports. Speaking to reporters in Poland yesterday, Treasury Minister Jacek Socha said that he is pressing for agreement between potential buyer Sobieski Dystrybucja and Bialystok’s unions before the transaction can be completed.
Employees at the Polish vodka distiller are concerned that Sobieski, which is owned by French company Belvedere, will reduce the company to little more than a liquor bottler. Socha invited trade union member to the treasury ministry yesterday.
“We have presented the information to the company with which we are negotiating,” Socha told reporters. “We hope they will find an agreement with the unions and with the company, because this is important for the privatisation.”
“If not we will think what we should do next,” he added.
“We are waiting for the final outcome (of the talks),” Socha said.
Sobieski Dystrybucja has been in exclusive negotiations with the Treasury Ministry after being selected over Central European Distribution Corporation and Polmos Lublin to buy the 61% stake. These negotiations are scheduled to finish today.
