Election Date Set

President Aleksander Kwasniewski has announced September 25 as the date for Poland's general election. House speaker Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz said after conferring with the head of state that presidential elections, in turn, have been set for October 9th.

Should a second round be needed, it would be held two weeks later. Speaking at a press conference, both politicians agreed that the dates of the elections had to be separate, if only because of purely organizational considerations.
