Polish archbishops have said they are convinced Benedict XVI will carry on the work of his predecessor Polish-born John Paul II.
They stressed that cardinal Ratzinger was a close associate and friend of the late Pope. Former Polish president Lech Walesa described Pope Benedict as a 'sound choice'.
Poland's chief rabbi Michael Schudrich expressed the hope Benedict XVI will carry on the Roman Catholic church's dialogue with judaism.
