Prayers In The Darkness

A solemn liturgy on occasion of the 1600th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian written language was chanted in the Church of St. Nicholas in Krakow yesterday.

As Archimandrite of the Krakow monastery, Armenians’ spiritual shepherd Tadeusz Isahakian-Zalezski held the ceremony before representatives of the Catholic and Roman Catholic Churches as well as members of the Armenian community of Poland. In his prayers Isahakian-Zalezski called to the Polish parliament to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The genocide committed by the Turks against the Armenians during the First World War still remains unrecognized on the international scene, owing to complex political relationships between today's powers.

The Armenians were traditionally held in high esteem in Poland where they flourished for over six hundred years.

Earlier this year, the book about the Armenian Genocide titled “The First Holocaust of the 20th Century" received the Phoenix; the supreme Polish award.

Archimandrite of the Krakow monastery Tadeusz Isahakian-Zalezski said in a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net that this award is very important for the Armenian community of Poland, as the US-Turkey military union does not allow Poland to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

It can be proved by the fact that the Turkish Embassy in Warsaw and Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Jan Truszczynski tried to prevent the erection of an Armenian Khachkar at the Krakow monastery in 2004.

Isahakian-Zalezski noted that the book is the first major work depicting the Armenian Genocide ever published in Poland. “It is rather popular and we hope that this popularity will induce official Ankara to speak the truth aloud'' said Isahakian-Zalezski.
