Sundance In Cracow

Great news for theatre lovers: the Sundance Institute is bringing a stage workshop to Cracow later this month. Between the 14th and 16th of April, the Pulitzer prize winning play "I am my own wife" will be playing at the Stary Theatre on Jagiellonska and there will also be workshops with director Moises Kaufman and playwright Doug Wright.

"I am my own wife" is the true story of a transvestite who managed the impressive feat of surviving under Nazi and communist regimes despite being openly gay and dressing in drag. Playwright Doug Wright has won numerous awards for his work and this play in particular has been very well received. The aim of the workshops is to increase dialogue between artists from different countries, with particular reference to how Polish playwrights are now beginning to move away from the political dramas so prevalent during and immediately after communist rule.

Bringing the stage workshop to Cracow is just one part of the Sundance Institutes increasing international focus: foreign language films are now included in their famous annual film festival, and a pool of funds was set up in 2002 to help create work by foreign documentary makers.
