Lovers of classical music have a treat in store this weekend as we're fast approaching the 35th anniversary
of Cracow's finest orchestra, Capella Cracoviensis.
A special celebratory concert will be held on Sunday evening to mark the anniversary, and it will be conducted by the founder of the orchestra, Stanislaw Galonski. The venue will be the the newly restored Philharmonic Hall.
Sunday's programme takes in a host of popular classics, with Bach's Magnificat, Mozart's Symphony in D major 'Haffner' and Vivaldi's Concerto for two violins in A Minor all due to be performed.
Capella Cracoviensis was founded as a non-profit making enterprise with the ultimate intention of creating a new concert hall in Cracow. It's a measure of the difficulty in getting things done here that the Concert Hall has still yet to be built, although the project is certainly closer to realization than it was 35 years ago.
The orchestra has deservedly won international acclaim, staging the yearly 'Muzyka w Starym Krakowie'' Festival (Music In Old Cracow) and also performing one-off events overseas. Tickets are not expensive for Sunday's concert (10 zl) so snap them up fast - it promises to be a great evening!
