Judging by the pieces on show at this year's festival, Poland's proud tradition of poster art has lost none of its sparkle. If you're curious about this celebrated aspect of Poland's contemporary art scene then get down to Palac Sztuki (The Palace of Art) without delay! The official prize ceremony will be on Friday 18th February at 6pm, whilst the exhibition itself will be taken down on March 1st.
There are well over 100 posters on show, and they cover the interior of the art nouveau palace from top to toe. Some of the simplest yet most poignant are the posters that were printed to commemorate the 60th anniversary
of the Warsaw Uprising against the Nazi Occupation (1944/ 2004). In one example, an opened man-hole to Warsaw's sewers recalls the tragic finale of the conflict, when hundreds of Poles were compelled to go underground to evade the Germans.
However, this is by no means a heavy exhibition. The vibrant concoctions on show run the entire gamut of emotions, with dreamy, ecstatic, cosmic and raunchy numbers all jostling side by side. In short there's something to suit all tastes. But enough hype - go and see for yourselves!
