Shanty Festival Due To Kick Off

What with Cracow being so close to the sea it was only a matter of time before Prince Krak hosted a Sea Shanty Festival. But hang on a moment.... Cracow is nowhere near the sea. You'd have to travel several hundred miles for a glimpse of the great blue wobbly.

But what's wrong with a little imagination me hearties as Bluebeard would no doubt agree. The lack of sea air on the breeze won't be holding back shanty aficionado's from across Poland from descending on Cracow for the 24th International Sailors Song Festival this February. So get Polly the Parrot a nice winter jacket, strap on your eye-patch and get ready to let rip with some maritime madness.

The event kicks off on Thursday 24th February at the legendary Rotunda Club, who are the main hosts of this year's festival. Stary Port, Cracow's very own shanty den (find it in the cellars of ul. Straszewskiego 27) will also be putting on nightly concerts every day of the festival at 11pm, culminating in a send-off for the International bands on 28th February.

Also worth catching are two stonking events at the Wisla Sports Hall. The first, on Sunday morning, is aimed at children, whilst the second, for grown up seadogs, will be performed that evening.
