Heavy fog caused a 61-car pile-up on Monday on a busy highway near the southern Polish city of Krakow, injuring 18 people, the fire brigade said.
"Dense fog and excessive speed caused 61 cars to smash into each other, blocking both lanes of travel towards Krakow this morning," fire brigade captain Andrzej Siekanka told Reuters.
The fire brigade is co-ordinating efforts to clean up spilled fuel and clear the main highway from Berlin, which will likely be blocked until the evening, Siekanka said.
