Musical magic at the Mariacki
There’s less than a week to go until Christmas, and – despite the snow that is conspicuous by its absence – the city is in full festive swing.
The Christmas market in the main square will remain open right up until Christmas Eve, giant angels of light have begun to be installed around Krakow’s centre, and almost every church and hall is ringing out to the sound of Christmas carols.
But the crowning glory of the week’s events will undoubtedly be the Kolęda Nova concert at the city’s Mariacki church – on December 20 at 9pm. The five-part celebration will include orchestras, choirs, children’s music, and more. There will also be one-off performances from Krakow favourites Bester Quartet, Kroke and Motion Trio.
Izabela Helbin, of Krakow Festival Office, said: "Classics, fun and tradition will meet in this extraordinary concert. Their interaction will banish the borders between styles and genres.”
Tickets for the concert cost 50zł. But, if you don’t make it, tune into TV2 on Christmas Eve at 6.45pm, when it will be broadcast.
