Calm After The Storm
Cracow saw its first snow of the Winter today, but not before some of the worst weather of the year thus far. Storms tore across Poland throughout Thursday and Friday, uprooting trees and telephone wires.
Cracow, tucked away in the south of the country, was relatively mildly hit compared to the northern coast-line, where winds reached 130 km per hour.
After a peculiar late Autumn that saw remarkably warm, sunny weather, followed by a dreary middle of the month, Cracovians are now hoping for Winter to finally begin in earnest. Whilst November is generally held to be one of the least attractive months of the year, December, on the other hand, has considerable charms, not least due to the advent of the Christmas season - Cracow under a blanket of snow is amongst the most enchanting sights in the country.
By mid-afternoon today rooftops across the city had turned white. However, whilst the gales are predicted to fizzle out by the weekend, weather forecasters are not predicting deep snow immediately - the eskimo boots can wait for a few more days yet.
