Days of Books and Roses

If you are presented with a poem and a rose when you buy a drink at one of Krakow’s myriad cafés come late April, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the barista has fallen instantly under your spell.
Rather, April 28 and 29 are being celebrated across Malopolska as the Days of Books and Roses. As well as the café promotion, libraries and bookstores in Krakow will be marking the occasion. It’s a great time for bookworms to stock up their personal libraries too – as at least 15 bookshops in the city will be offering discounts on purchases during both days.
Days of Books and Roses originated in Spain, and falls just a few days after the UNESCO International Day of Books, on April 23. The date marks the anniversary of the birth and death of William Shakespeare, and the death of the Spanish writer Cervantes - as well as St George's Day, marked in England, Catalonia and beyond.
