Back to the Future: II Ethno Design Festival
Travellers with children in tow might take a walk along the riverbank this month as a magical carnival has emerged, courtesy of the Ethnographic Museum.
Following on from the success of last year's Ethno Design Festival, the museum has decided to brave the outdoors, commandeering a stretch between the Manggha Museum and the Debnicki Bridge.
Head over the bridge for a fantastical encounter with folklore, courtesy of artist Olaf Cirut, who's rustled up a rolls royce of children's playgrounds, inspired by local traditions.
Mr. Cirut was let loose in the museum's storerooms, and he emerged brandishing a batch of old-fashioned toys of the kind traditionally sold at fairs in pre-war Poland.
Together with his gallant team, he constructed a carousel with human-size characters from folklore, as well as idiosyncratic swings, a garden with more than a hint of Alice in Wonderland, and a series of windmills to boot. Children have been swift to give the installations the thumbs up.
Travellers inspired by these folk flourishes might head to the main seat of the Ethnographic Museum on Plac Wolnica. A further section of the festival has made its home on the square, whilst inside the museum, there are many more treats to savour.
The II Ethno Design Festival runs until 23rd May
