Funeral To Go Ahead As Planned
Although the volcanic eruption continues to wreak havoc with flights across Europe, a firm message has been relayed from President Kaczynski's family. Sunday's funeral in Cracow will go ahead. Likewise, the memorial ceremony in Warsaw will also continue as planned.
The timetable for Cracow's tributes is set to start at midday, when the coffins of President Kaczynski and his wife will be brought to St. Mary's Basilica on the Market Square. The funeral mass will not start until 2 pm. At 3.30 pm, the funeral procession will proceed down Grodzka Street to the Wawel Citadel, echoing the ancient Royal Way.
At 4.30 pm, the Archbishop of Cracow, Stanislaw Dziwisz will preside over the ceremony at Wawel Cathedal. Following that, the coffins of President Kaczynski and his wife will be laid to rest in the crypts. Finally, at 5.15 pm, there will be speeches of condolence in the courtyard of Wawel Castle.
Large screens are being erected across Cracow, to enable Poles and visitors alike to watch the ceremonies.
