Chopin Bicentenary Set To Launch

Cracow is preparing for the official launch of Chopin Year, which will begin at the Royal Castle on Sunday 28th February.

Chopin's visit to the city may have been only fleeting - Warsaw is where he grew up - but that hasn't stopped the old Royal Capital from stealing the show.

Celebrated pianist Kevin Kenner is due to perform at a commemorative mass in Wawel Cathedral on Sunday. Following this, a medallion bearing the composer's likeness - emulating that on his tomb in Paris - will be unveiled in the Crypt of Poland's National Poets.

Next, the action moves to the Collegium Maius, where a new exhibition, "Chopin in Cracow and personal mementos", is being launched. Afterwards, Kevin Kenner will be hitting the keyboard again.
