Cracow Airport Set To Expand

Cracow's airport is on the cusp of change. Some 800 million zloty are set to be pumped into the enterprise, bringing it firmly into the 21st century. Amongst various plans, the passenger terminal will double its capacity.

Officially known as the John Paul II International Airport, after the Cracow archbishop who won the top job at the Vatican, it is the second busiest airport in Poland.

Situated in Balice, half an hour's drive from the centre of Cracow, the airport has had to cope with a huge jump in numbers over the last decade, with the the city now firmly established as a tourist destination.

Besides the terminal expansion, authorities are also considering offers from major hotel firms, with a view to creating a world class hotel on the site.
