Russian Virtual Reality Upsets Poles
With the lead up to the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II in full flow, a Russian state TV station has aired a documentary claiming that Poland was planning an invasion of the Soviet Union, together with Nazi Germany.
Although the Kremlin appeared to distance itself from the programme, the news has frustrated Poles, who feel that Russia has never fully addressed its role in the invasion of Poland by Germany and the Soviet Union in September 1939.
The documentary was screened on August 23rd, the date of the notorious Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, signed by Russia and Germany, and ultimately dividing up Poland, and marking out spheres of influence in Central and Eastern Europe.
Prime Minister Putin is due to attend the events commemorating the outbreak of war on September 1st. Polish journalists are eager to discover whether the Russian leader will acknowledge Russia's role in dividing up Poland.
