No More Horsing Around The Rynek

Owing to a recent spate of accidents - none of which was fatal we hasten to add - horse-drawn carriages have been banned from Cracow's Market Square. We say banned, but in fact, the ban is somewhat partial. It is only valid during peak season, and only between midday and 5 o 'clock.

City authorities have decided to rein in the enterprise as of 24th July, after a short but sharp series of debates on the matter.

It's believed that the unusual number of accidents this year results from the uncommonly high temperatures, coupled with the noisy crowds of the holiday season.

The city is set to announce a new location for carriage-drivers to make their stand. There have been some mentions of Plac Szczepanski, but this is unlikely in the immediate future, as the plaza is largely off limits owing to renovation works. Watch this space for more info.

Don't worry Jo. The rules are changing every day. The last we heard, the carriage drivers had wangled most of their rights back. Watch this space for more updates!

How sad. They are such a quaint sight and add to the magical atmosphere.
