Unidentified Driving Object: The Robots Have Landed

To the unsuspecting tourist, being approached by a four-wheeled, camouflaged robot might seem a little unnerving. Especially given that this particular machine looks very much like a miniature tank.

And just what exactly does this "Justus" word imply that's emblazoned across the vehicle? It sounds suspiciously like the English word justice. Does this mean that the mysterious machine is empowered to dispense "justice" to unwitting wayfarers? Certainly food for thought, given that the two black nozzles at the front of the vehicle resemble rocket-launchers...

These and other questions have been puzzling travellers in Cracow over the last few weeks, especially those who've been followed around the train station by the militant robot. But Cracow Life can reveal that the unidentified driving object is not planning to launch missiles in your direction (unless we've been fed disinformation that is). For as locals already know, Justus is a long-established security firm, and the robot is indeed their freshest gadget - a patrol robot that's not, as of yet, licensed to kill.

The so-called MSMW (Mobilny System Monitoringu Wizyjnego/Mobile Visual Monitoring System) is in fact controlled by a genuine human being, much like a remote controlled toy car. Generally speaking, the robot is used to zoom in on potentially dangerous situations, when back up might be needed. And of course, this fellow doesn't mind staying outdoors 24 hours a day, whether we've got boiling or freezing temperatures. He (is it a he? is it a she? This is yet one more question that's intrigued us all) can also be programmed to follow a certain route, back and forth, like a guide-dog. Weapons may not be included at present, but the MSMW can perform basic defensive functions. Above all, his video feed can be used as evidence if the robot catches a criminal in the act.

The MSMW is the first such robot to be used in a public space in Poland, hence the wave of interest. However, our intelligence source tells us that an even more hi-tech model is in the pipeline - a project so cunning you could put a tale on it and call it a weasel. Watch this space for more security leaks...
