The 49th Krakow Film Festival is set to kick off on Friday 29th May, and it looks like 2009 will be a vintage year.
Poland's oldest film festival sees celluloid knights battle it out for the prized Golden Dragons. As always, it's a three pronged affair, with the emphasis being on short films, documentaries and animated works.
Guest of honour this year is American director Paul Mazursky (An Unmarried Woman ) and the honorary Dragon of Dragons will be awarded to Polish animator Jerzy Kucia, laureate of numerous international festivals from Cannes to Ottawa.
This year's festival 200 submissions from around the globe, and besides Polish and European films, cinephiles can catch cuts from Bahrain, Brazil, China and Cambodia, amongst many others.
As usual, Kijow Centrum
which boasts Krakow's largest cinema screen, will host the main bulk of the events. However, Kino Pod Baranami, Kino Mikro will be providing crucial back-up.
