Toy Story

Marek Sosenko, dubbed "the king of collectors", hopes to launch a Museum of Toys in Cracow.

Mr Sosenko, who owns one of Cracow's finest antique shops, began collecting toys in 1978. His extraordinary stash takes in teddy bears, dolls, logic games, children's books and other antique curios. Unique rarities designed by celebrated Polish artists can also be found.

The Toy Museum would echo similar foundations in London, Brussels and Prague, yet with a decidedly Cracovian dimension. Mr. Sosenko, who is working on the project with his daughter Katarzyna; an art historian, initially hoped to open the museum under the aegis of the city. However, it appears that the authorities got cold feet as a result of the predicted economic crisis. At present, the Sosenko family is considering all promising proposals for the toy parade. Part of the collection is currently on display at Bunkier Sztuki, woven into Robert Kusmirowski's headspinning exhibition "Mass Collecting."
