Christmas Market Welcomes Wayfarers

Cracow's Christmas Market is in full swing, and it's been doing a roaring trade since opening last Friday.

As always, travellers in search of folksy clobber will be spoilt for choice, and there are plenty of epicurean distractions for peckish perusers. For the uninitiated, a must is to try the grilled oscypek ewe's cheese. It's often cited as an acquired taste, but once you're hooked, there's no turning back. Likewise, the grzaniec galicyjski Poland's most popular mulled wine, is guaranteed to make a powerful impact. See if you can pronounce that after a few glasses.

The only missing element thus far is snow, but given the unpredictability of Poland, don't take your bets off just yet.....

The Christmas market was spectacular even without snow this year. The cheese is a local form of halloumi by the way - slightly squeaky, smoky and delicious with cranberry jam. Try it!
