Voyage to Tyniec Abbey
Slip out of the city this Sunday to Tyniec Abbey, where the monks are hosting a summer fair selling all manner of tasty victuals. And if you want to really push the boat out (terrible pun here), why not literally take the boat as Goliat tours is commandeering a galleon of sorts to take you to the Abbey in leisurely style.
Along the way, an enthusiastic guide will fill you in on all the legends of the ancient River Vistula, bringing to life the historic buildings that line the banks, including castles and convents. It's a beautiful trip, and the end goal is one of Poland's oldest monasteries, the eleventh century Benedictine Abbey of Tyniec.
The monks at Tyniec have struck gold in recent times, tapping into the age-old recipes of the Abbey. Their sumptuous range of gastronomic goodies has won plenty of plaudits, as you'll discover on your trip. The Abbey is 40 minutes journey id you're sailing at a very gentle pace. Once there you can also sample the delights of the excellent restaurant "Mnisze co nieco."
To join the boat-trip, it's 45 zloty for a return ticket, 25 for children. The boat leaves the Vistula embankment at 10.30am. There's a one hour stop at the Abbey, but if you want to stay longer you can always take the bus back to Cracow from Tyniec village (the route terminates at Rynek Debniki, Cracow, South Bank). You can ring Goliat Tours direct to reserve your ticket.
