Poland Prepares For Euro 2008

There's an air of excitement bordering on hysteria right now, as Poland's national team make their final preparations for the UEFA Euro 2008 Championships to be held in Austria and Switzerland, starting on June 7th. No wonder - Poland qualified for the final stage of the tournament for the first time ever this year!

It looks like they might have a rough ride ahead of them, as Polska first go into action on the 8th June against a formidable German side - their arch-rivals who are favourite to win the championship, and whom they have never defeated. After the Germans they have to take on hosts Austria and a very strong Croatian side, who at least are missing Eduardo da Silva, which should help their chances a little.

The Polish team have grown strong under the leadership of Dutch coach Leo Beenhakker and even managed to top their qualifying group ahead of more-fancied Portugal. If they can continue their form, and get a healthy slice of luck, they may even surprise a few people in 2008.

Some other good news for the Poles is that with no England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland in the tournoi over fifty percent of Brits have decided to support Poland! Maybe that extra cheering from across the channel can push the Polaks to victory!
