Polish Peter Wolfs Down Oscar

All eyes were on Andrzej Wajda and his feature film Katyn, but in the end, it was an animation team that struck gold for Poland at the 80th Academy Awards.

An Anglo-Polish production of Peter and the Wolf walked away with the gong for Best Animated Short Film at Sunday's ceremony. With its blend of Prokofiev's classic score and puppet animation, the film had already garnered a clutch of prizes on the international stage. But for chief animator Adam Wyrwas, the Oscar was the icing on the cake:

'I am extremely happy - I cried like a little boy,' Wyrwas revealed.

The animation for Peter and the Wolf was completed by a predominantly Polish team in Lodz, home city of the famous film school, which counts Wajda, Polanski and Kieslowski amongst its alumni.
