A new year has brought a new marketing strategy for the city of Krakow, as the promotion department of the Krakow City Council has announced recently. The city authorities want to shift the image of the city from a bar and club haven full of cheap beer and beautiful girls for stag parties and the like to what the city has been traditionally known as in Poland, a capital of culture. The city will invest more funds, both from the EU and from the the city's budget, into promoting cultural events in the city and abroad, while also running an advertising campaign to show it as a city with "economic potential".
With this shift in image, the city of Krakow is hoping to attract a higher class of visitors, who are drawn to the city both for its festivals and cultural events as well as its investment opportunities. However, while it may not be as promoted anymore, Krakow's nightlife will continue to draw plenty of revellers - though hopefully these visitors will also spend their days in Krakow's museums and galleries, and not just in the bars. | Source: Cracow Life | Jan.02.2008 |
