A Musical Weekend

This weekend is a treat for music lovers. As we wrote earlier, the Festival of Polish Music is already underway, and this weekend it will conclude with performances of compositions by Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki, Mieczyslaw Soltys, and other famous Polish composers.

If you're flying into Katowice Airport this weekend, you might just want to stay a day or two before heading into Krakow. Or, if you're already here you can take the one and a half hour train ride to Katowice if you're a fan of the famous Kronos Quartet from the US, as they are performing a concert in the Upper Silesian Centre of Culture on the 10th of November at 8 pm. The concert is part of the the Upper Silesian Festival of Chamber Arts Ars Cameralis that's going on throughout Silesia for most of the month.

In addition, if you're planning on staying in Krakow over the weekend and looking for something a bit more contemporary, two great local bands (though not entirely composed of locals) will be performing at local clubs. First, on Saturday the 10th, local ex-pat fronted rock band Eluktrick are playing a concert at Cafe Szafe (ul. Felicjanek 10). Then, on Sunday the 11th Krakow's best (well, only) post-rock band comprised of international and Polish musicians, New Century Classics, will be playing with Italian laptop musician geniuses Port-Royal at Folia Concept Club (Rynek Glowny 30), and both bands promise to prove that modern music doesn't have to have words to move you.

It's safe to say that if you're a fan of live music, you won't be disappointed this weekend!
