Michael Palin and Lech Walesa face to face certainly has comic potential, and UK viewers will be treated to this intriguing encounter later in the month in the new travel series Palin's New Europe.
Producers are remaining tight-lipped about whether Walesa emerges in one of Palin's legendary Spanish Inquisition kits, but either way, there should be plenty to savour in the Polish episode.
Besides meeting Walesa in Gdansk, the Monty Python legend visits Warsaw's notorious Palace of Culture & Science, and then travels further south to Krakow. From there he makes a special trip to Auschwitz, before departing from Poland by boat, courtesy of a band of jodhpur-attired highlanders.
**'Pole to Pole,' Episode 6 in the series Palin's New Europe will air on Sunday 21st October at 9pm (BBC1).
