Starting this week, if you want to storm Wawel Castle, you'll have to take a wooden sword instead of a metal one, because security has just gotten tighter at the castle. Part of the increased anti-terrorist measures being implemented in Poland, the new Wawel security includes screening procedures, metal detectors and baggage X-ray equipment.
As most of the castle's greatest treasures were looted years ago anyway, the increase in security is mostly for the protection of visitors, which includes millions of people who come from all over the world to see the former royal seat of Poland every year. The new measures mean that if you're planning a visit to Wawel, please leave your fire-arms, knives, clubs, as well as explosives and combustibles safely at home. |
